French supermarket and hypermarket operator Groupe Auchan has announced in August that it has signed a franchise agreement for the development of a hypermarket business in India with Max India Hypermarkets that will result in 12 to 15 new Auchan hypermarkets starting from the end of 2012.
CEO Max, Landmark Group, Ramanathan Hariharan, said Max India was excited to start a partnership with Auchan, one of the best distributors in the world. “Landmark Group has significant project growth in India, and we believe that Auchan is the best partner suitable for this ambition, " he said.

Founded in 2004, Max Hypermarket India has 13 hypermarkets in major cities of the south that have an average area of 5000 m². Groupe Auchan had 44.5 billion euro turnover in 2011, 55% of this outside France. Auchan the world’s 12th largest distributor of food, is present in 12 countries and employs 269,000 people.
